Dr. Gary Hoover
Dr. Gary Hoover was born and raised in South Bend, IN. Like most veterinarians, the family pets (a dog and later rabbits) inspired a love of animals. He also spent most of his childhood weekends at a nearby lake, which led to a deep interest in aquatic animals, especially fish. He went on to get his B.S. in Fisheries & Aquatic Science at Purdue University, then continued at Purdue for his DVM. During veterinary school, the Dr. Hoover deemed the curriculum lacking in fish, and enrolled in a PhD program in aquatic toxicology. After finishing the DVM program, he spent a short time in small animal practice before returning to Purdue full time to do research. Dr. Hoover will defend his thesis in the summer of 2018, which will cover the toxic effects of a family of chemicals called "PFASs" on larval amphibians (tadpoles).
Dr. Hoover has a beautiful wife, Sandy, and adorable little boy named Henry. He also has a beagle, Cookies, a Labrador, Meg, a cat named Spot, and numerous fish. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, hiking, fishing and golfing.
